Learning Experiences in the Nursery

During a typical session the children will have the opportunity to experience a range of exciting and stimulating play activities some of which will be led by the teacher some the children will select themselves. The children will have access to the outdoor area as and when they wish despite the weather conditions so please can you make sure that your child has wellingtons, a warm coat in the winter and a sun hat in the summer.

A typical selection of activities that the children can self-select would include:

· Looking at books

· Poems/Rhymes

· Baking

· Story

· Model making

· Singing and music making

· Cutting and sticking

· Construction toys

· Counting/Matching

· Sand and water play

· Ordering/Sorting games

· Home corner/Role play

·Math/Science activities such as using magnets                                                         

· Painting and drawing

· Computer

· Writing table

· Outdoor play

Careful records on the children’s progress and future learning needs are kept. These are called their ‘Learning Journeys,’ and these will be shared with you at parents evening. Each term you too will be asked to contribute to your child’s book with their achievements at home.
