Lime Tree Class Curriculum Newsletter Autumn 2015

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Lime Tree Class Curriculum Newsletter - Autumn 2015

Welcome back! We hope your children have all had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the new school year! This year, teaching will be shared by Mrs Besley and Mrs Foreman. Mrs Besley will teach Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Foreman will teach the rest of the week. We are both looking forward to working together! Mrs Hammond will continue to support us as before.

Our topic this term is:

“Land Ahoy”

In geography, we will be using world maps and maps of the United Kingdom to identify different countries and oceans. We will also be using simple compass directions to describe the location of places on maps. In history we will be learning about Christopher Columbus.

In science, we will be studying plants and how they grow. We will perform simple tests to identify what they need to stay healthy.

In DT, we will be using textiles to make pirate flags. Our art topic is printmaking. Please can each child bring in an old shirt to use during art and messy play to save their school uniforms.

Our topic for RE this half term is ‘Belonging, Leaders and Teachers’. Our Value for Life this term is Forgiveness.

Forest School is still on a Wednesday afternoon, led by Mrs Hammond.  Please send appropriate clothing to school on a Wednesday.  PE is on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has both trainers and plimsolls in school for these sessions, along with their usual PE kit.

Show and Tell will be slightly different this year. Your child will be told the day that he or she may bring in a show and tell item. This will be the same day every week. A show and tell timetable is attached with this letter.  Please ensure that these items are small enough to fit in a locker and are not breakable. Toy weapons are not allowed.

We will continue to send home a short home task on Wednesdays, which is due in by the following Wednesday. Please continue to support your child by reading as often as possible at home and making a note of this in the reading diary. The expectation is that children should read at home at  least 3 times a week.  Year 2’s will receive spelling words on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. The Year 1 children will start receiving spelling words later in the school year.

Our class assembly will take place on Friday 20th November. We will send home information about our termly school trip later in the term.

If you have any questions about the information in this letter or any other queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to us. We are looking forward to an exciting year!

Best wishes,

Mrs Besley and Mrs Foreman
