Spring Term 201 - Newsletter 1

2nd February 2018

Dear parents/carers,

Linda Hearn’s Retirement

Mrs Hearn has decided to retire at half term after more than 25 years as the school’s cleaner. She has been a very important part of the school and we have greatly appreciated her commitment and all the little extras she has done to support the school over the years.

Safer Internet Day

Children will be doing activities next Tuesday (6th February) to mark safer internet day. There are supporting resources for parents and carers here. These include including conversation starters, a factsheet, family pledge card and more.

Electronic Devices at Bedtime

Staff have noticed a few children showing signs of tiredness in class - yawning and finding it difficult to concentrate. Several have mentioned being on their tablets or phones after they have gone to bed. As children are using electronic devices at increasingly young ages, it is important to ‘start as you mean to go on’ and agree rules for when they are used. My strong advice would be to get into the habit of phones and tablets staying downstairs at bedtimes from the start. Some of the materials from Safer Internet Day could support with opening up conversations and setting up agreements at home!

Parents Evenings

As you will be aware, parents evenings are scheduled for next week. If you haven’t yet made an appointment, there is still time to do so!

As part of our drive to support children’s reading, teachers will be providing you will some information about how you can support your child when reading at home and the types of comments you could put in their reading records. Interim reports with also be shared. These will give a brief overview of how well children are achieving in relation to national expectations, .

KS2 France Day Trip

A reminder that passports and EHIC cards need to be brought into school for photocopying. Thank you to those that have already sent them in

Y6 Maths

We are delighted that Mrs Coe, head of maths at Debenham High School, has started working with our Y6 children for two lessons a week this term. This will help prepare them for the upcoming end of key stage SATs.

Wow Newsletter

The next half-termly ‘Wonders of Wetheringsett’ newsletter will be sent home next week, celebrating all the great things that have happened in school. If your child has any achievements out of school that could be shared and celebrated in the newsletter, please let me know and email any accompanying photographs.

World Book Day

This is on 1st March this year and we have exciting plans for things we will be doing in school to mark it. One of ways we will mark the day will be by asking children to dress up as a character from a book, so start thinking about what they might wear!
