Autumn Term 2017 - Newsletter 2

17th November 2017

Dear parents/carers,

Information Session for Parents of Reception Children

Mrs Sheeran has invited the parents of children in Reception to a brief session after school on 27th November where she will chat to you about how you can best support your child at home. This will include valuable information about phonics and our approach to reading. Please let us know if you will be unable to make it. A member of staff will be available to look after any children.

Victorian Christmas Fayre

A final reminder that this is taking place at the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway tomorrow between 11am and 3pm. Please come along and support the biggest fundraising event of the year. There will be lots of craft stalls and plenty of fun things to do.

A huge thank you for the support parents have given with reading at home this term. The increase in children’s reading at home is phenomenal. We now have over 90% of children reading at least three times a week at home, which is absolutely fantastic.

Next term, we will be sending home some helpful hints to support you to make the most of the time you have reading together.

Book Fair

A large selection of books from The Book People will be on sale after school in the village hall all of next week (November 20th - 25th). These would make great Christmas presents and you will be supporting the school at the same time by purchasing them as 25% of all sales goes to the school!

Behaviour Policy

The feedback from staff and children to the new behaviour policy is very positive. The simplified rules of Be kind. Work hard. are easy to remember and encompass all the positive behaviour we want children to show. Both staff and children have also commented that the ‘behaviour ladder’ which outlines the types of sanctions that can be expected for different behaviour infringements have made things clearer and more consistent for everyone. This is particularly important as we have several part time members of staff. It is important that children know that staff will all have the same expectations for behaviour and that they will respond to both positive and negative behaviour in very similar ways.

If you have any feedback on how you feel the policy is working, please let me know.

Vicky Doherty
