Spring Term 2016 - Newsletter 2

26th February 2016

Dear parents/carers,

World Book Day, 3rd March 2016

A reminder that children can dress up as a book character when they come to school on Thursday to mark World Book Day.

Village Litter Pick

A village litter pick is taking place on Sunday 20th March. Here are the details:

Please join us for the next Village Litter Pick! We will meet at the Village Hall as usual and,

depending on numbers, will tackle as much of the village as we can, especially the roads coming in from the A140, the Collingford Bridge area and Hockey Hill.

Black sacks, pick-up sticks and hi-vis jackets are provided by MSDC, along with some (large!) heavy duty gloves, although you may prefer to bring your own.

We will regroup in the Village Hall at about 11.30 for refreshments. ALL WELCOME.

To support this, the children will be doing some litter picking on Friday 18th March. We will make sure that this is in very safe places, away from the roads.

Women’s World Day of Prayer

Rev. Julia Lall has invited our Year 5 children to take part in the Women’s World Day of Prayer in the church next Friday (4th March) at 10am. They have made decorations for the church, some children will be doing readings and they will be playing percussion instruments to accompany one of the songs. All are welcome to attend.

Safe Touch Sessions

On Thursday 3rd March, members of the local social care team will be delivering sessions for Y1-6 on ‘Safe Touch’ to support our PSHE curriculum. The presentations are tailored for each key stage but each start by talking about how wonderful our bodies are, then go on to explain how some touches are not good (when someone hits you or pulls your hair) before talking about how the parts of your body that are covered with underwear are private. Please ask if you would like any more information about this.

Wolsey Theatre Production

On Tuesday 1st March, Helmingham and Bedfield Primary Schools will be joining children in Sycamore Class to watch a New Wolsey Theatre production (at school) called ‘Alfie Strange’. Alfie Strange is a time traveller and the production is designed to help support schools to promote modern British Values.

Friends EGM

Thank you to those who have already expressed their support for the Friends. Please do come along to the EGM on Tuesday at 3.30pm to ensure that the Friends’ excellent work is able to continue.

Timestables Competition

A reminder that this will take place on Monday, with prizes for the best and most improved in each class. Keep practising!

Lost Property

We had a huge amount of un-named lost property before the half term break, most of which remained unclaimed and has now been thrown out or donated. Please make sure your child’s belongings are named so they can be returned to their owner.

PE Kits

This academic year, we invested in spare PE kit for each class as there were so many children missing PE lessons as they had forgotten their kit. Unfortunately, a lot of the kit that has been lend out has not been returned, particularly in Y5/6. It is likely that these have been taken home in error. All the spare kit was marked with ‘school’. Please check if you have any of the school kit at home and return it if you do.
