Newsletter Autumn Term 2015 - Newsletter 1 11th September 2015 Dear parents/carers, Welcome Back! It has been lovely to see all the children return to school after the long break. Several parents have commented on how happy their children were to return to school. The new term has got off to a great start, with every class getting stuck into their learning with enthusiasm. We have been particularly pleased with how our new Year 6 children have risen to the challenge of being the ‘top of the school’ and are proving themselves to be excellent role models. Our youngest children have also settled very well into our new early years, nursery and reception class with Miss Jones. After School Clubs We are delighted that there has been had a big increase in uptake for this term’s clubs, following a concerted effort to offer clubs that will appeal more to the children. There is a small charge for clubs, but sports clubs are heavily subsidised from our Sports Premium Grant. There are still a few places left in each club so you are still able to sign up your child, if they would like to go. Further information can be found on this letter on the school’s website and bookings need to be made online on School Gateway. Whole School Value Our whole school value that will be a focus throughout the school and in our Collective Worship this half term is ‘forgiveness’. We will be thinking about the importance of acknowledging when we have made mistakes and saying sorry and that forgiveness and acceptance of all builds the life of the school community. Please support this by highlighting examples of this you notice at home. Home School Agreement Working with a close partnership between the school, parents and children is a proven factor in children’s success at school . A paper copy of our Home School Agreement is being sent home with all children today. This is unchanged and most of you will have signed this before, but the beginning of a new year is a good time to refresh everyone about our mutual expectations for working together. We will be talking to children about this in school, but are asking all parents to go through the contents of it with their child, discussing the school rules and talking to them about what we mean by ‘showing Christian values’ (older children should be able to tell you!). Likewise, please read the parents’ section carefully. I would like to draw your attention in particular to the fourth bullet point ‘ I will … cooperate with the school and support the actions of the school (particularly in front of my child) following the relevant procedures if I have any concerns’. Parents and the school but have the welfare of the children at heart, but, as in all schools, there may be occasions when parents disagree with the actions of the school. If this does happen, I would urge you to follow the correct procedure and talk to the staff member in question and not to express any disagreement in front of your children. It is very difficult and confusing for children if their parents do not appear to back the school and the adults whose care they are in. Data Sheets Data collections sheets are also being sent home today. Please check the information is correct and up to date, particularly emergency contacts, and return these. Governors’ Termly Report to Parents Please see the attached report from the governing body. This was distributed at the end of last term, but some of the content had corrupted when printed. A hard copy is also being sent home today. Book Fair and Scholastic Book Club These have raised over £200 that we will be able to spend on books in school.
