Autumn Term 2018 - Newsletter 3

2nd November 2018

Dear parents/carers,

Remembrance 1918-2018

This year is the centenary of the end of WW1 and we want to make sure that we commemorate it and create experiences for the children to remember.

On Monday afternoon, Rev. Julia and some volunteers are setting up a series of prayer stations in the village hall. Each class will have time to go to each and have time to reflect and pray if they wish to. The school Ethos Committee will then select one of the prayer stations to set up in The Escape (library) that children will then be able to use at other times.

On Thursday, we have been invited to join members of the community and Royal British Legion to commemorate the two war graves that have been identified in the village graveyard. This is something that is happening all over the county, with a minute’s silence at 11am. Some of our children will then lay poppy crosses and wreaths on the two graves.

All are welcome to attend the commemoration which will begin at around 10.40am. We will be taking the children over to the church to see the 3,000 knitted poppies on display straight afterwards. We feel that this will not be appropriate for children in Reception so they will stay in school and share a picture book about WW1  joining us at the church afterwards.

Coats

This is something that I mention in most newsletters, but we still have children coming to school without coats, even in the very wet weather we have had this week! Please make sure they have a coat in school, preferably one with a hood. Children still go out to play in light rain so need something waterproof.

NSPCC ‘Speak out. Stay safe.’

The NSPCC will be coming into school and running a session for each key stage on Friday 9th November. This is part of their ‘Speak out. Stay safe.’ campaign to support children to be safe from different kinds of abuse. You should have received an email yesterday with more details. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Individual Photographs

The photographer will be coming into school on Friday 9th November for individual and sibling photographs. If you would like sibling photographs to be taken with pre-school (or high school) aged children, you are welcome to go up to the village hall for this just before school starts, from around 8.30am. If all siblings are at this school, we will make sure they are photographed together within school time.

Lime Class Assembly

There has been some confusion about the date for Lime Class’s class assembly as two different dates were published. Apologies for this and any inconvenience it may have caused. The assembly will take place at 9am on 12th November.

Children in Need Day

The School Council have been working hard to put plans together for this year’s Children in Need Day on Friday 16th November. They have planned the following events and activities:

Non-uniform day

Children can wear spotty clothes or any other non-uniform (within reason!) for a donation of £1

Cake Stall

There will be a cake stall after school. Please bring in donations for this!

Pudsey Raffle

Similar to our popular Easter event, you will be able to buy a numbered square on a Pudsey board for 50p. The winning square will get a prize. The board will be available before and after school in the week leading up to the day for squares to be purchased.
