Autumn Term 2016 - Newsletter 4

9th December 2016

Dear parents/carers,

SIAMs Inspection

You may remember that we had our church school’s inspection last month. This was led by Graham Lancaster who is an ex-headteacher and Lead Strategic Commissioner for North Essex as well as being an accredited Ofsted inspector.  Mr Lancaster spent a day in school in which he talked to children, parents, staff and governors, attended collective worship, and observed Beliefs and Values (RE) lessons.

The report has now been published and I am delighted to say that the school was judged to be ‘good’. We are proud of the many very positive statements in the report which capture the warmth and care shown towards all within the school:

‘[The school’s] Christian ethos is demonstrated in its inclusivity and the care shown to those in particular need.’

‘Relationships between all members of the school community are very positive, based on high levels of respect for one another.’

‘Behaviour is exemplary’

‘Pupils are thoughtful and articulate. They and their parents are proud of their school and confident in its leadership.’

The report suggests that we further develop collective worship and ensure that its themes are fully embedded in the school and that we extend opportunities for spirituality through the creation of reflective spaces in the school.

The full report is being sent home to all parents with this newsletter.

Book Fair

This will be in the village hall from about 3.05pm every day until next Wednesday. There are lots of very affordable books which could make great Christmas presents!

Pupil Premium

Please read the attached letter about pupil premium funding for schools carefully. If you think you may be entitled, please do apply as this makes a significant difference to the funding the school receives.

Christmas Events

Pantomime

We are going to see Beauty and the Beast at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds next Friday, returning to school by about 4.30pm. Chestnut Class wrote to the Friends as part of an English unit on persuasive writing, asking them to fund an icecream for each child in the interval. There letter must have been very well written as this has been agreed!

Christmas Service

This takes place in the church on Wednesday at 6pm. Children in Lime Class need to be in the church by 5.30pm to change into their costumes.

Christmas Lunch

This is always a fun occasion and will take place this year on the Monday of the last week of term (19th December). Children will have festive table cloths and crackers funded by the Friends and will make hats in school to wear.
