Autumn Term 2014 - Newsletter 5

21st November 2014

Dear parents/carers,

Football Team

Well done to the school football team who took part in an inter-school competition at Stradbroke High School this week. They had a great time and showed great sportsmanship, playing against much larger primary schools.

Mindsets Assembly

A reminder that next Friday (28th Nov) at 9am, parents are invited to a special assembly where children from each class will be explaining about the work we are doing in school this year on fixed and growth mindsets

Breakfast Club

In our recent parent perception work, it was suggested that we have a breakfast club at school to provide childcare for working parents. Past surveys have suggested that there would not be much demand for this, but this is something we would like to explore further. If this is something you might be interested in, please complete the online survey (that will be sent out shortly) or, if you are unable to do this, hard copies will be available from the school office. Please return all responses by Monday 1st December.

Homework

We have had a lot of positive response to our new homework policy that sets out the expectations for homework for each year class. It is great that nearly all children are completing their homework on time. I have asked teachers to arrange to meet with the parents of children who are regularly not doing their homework to discuss this with them and see how we can support to make sure their children do not miss out and acquire good home learning habits. A staffed lunchtime homework club is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays that children can go to.

Good news on attendance!

As you may know, the school’s low attendance level had been identified as a cause of concern by the education welfare officer and in our last Ofsted inspection. I am delighted to tell you that our attendance so far this school year is 96.4%. This is above the national figure and exceeds our target of 96%. Well done everyone and thank you parents for your support. The challenge now is to maintain this for the rest of the year!

REMEMBER - Victorian Christmas Fayre

TOMORROW AT THE MIDDY!

Do come along and support this event. There will be train rides, many craft stalls, games, a Frozen themed grotto, food and all sorts. Our thanks to the Friends and all those who have put such a massive amount of work into this.
