Autumn Term 2014 - Newsletter 6

12th December 2014

Dear parents/carers,

Pantomime

The children had great fun at the pantomime on Wednesday. Their behaviour was a real credit to the school and was praised by members of the audience. Well done!

Christmas Service, 6pm Monday 15th December at the Church

We have been busy practising for this year’s Christmas Service and are delighted that Revd Julia Lall will be able to join us. A retiring collection will be taken for the Children’s Society, which does great work fighting poverty and neglect.

Parents are welcome to take photos or videos at the service but we ask that you do not post pictures of any other children online.

Can all children from Willow and Lime classes be at the church no later than 5.45pm and please make sure your child wears warm clothes under their uniform as the church can be quite cold.

Carols Round the Tree

Families are warmly invited to join us for our annual Carols Round the Tree after school on Thursday in the Village Hall.

This year, this will be like a mini-Christmas tree festival. On Tuesday afternoon, children will work  in mixed aged groups to decorating Christmas trees based on different carols which will be displayed in the Village Hall for the carols. The Friends will be serving free hot chocolate and sausage rolls for everyone. Again, there will be a retiring collection for Children’s Society.

Any help on Tuesday afternoon would be greatly appreciated. Please let a member of staff know if you are able to help.

IPads

Christmas has come early to school with the arrival of 13 brand new ipads, funded by the Friends. The children are so excited about using them and we will be able to use them for all sorts of exciting ways to support learning. A massive thank you to the Friends and all those who have supported their events. The proceeds of the recent Victorian Christmas Fayre went towards this where a massive £1200 was raised, thank you to everyone who helped in anyway to make this event happen

Messy Church Christingle

A reminder that this will take place in the church at 4pm on Saturday 13th December. All are welcome.

Community Christmas Service

On 21st December, there will be a Community Church Service at 6pm. Rev Julia has asked if the school children will sing one of our songs at the service. It would be great if as many children as possible were able to come along to join in.

School Lunch Ordering

Thank you to those parents who have been ordering their children’s lunch online each week. There has been some very positive feedback from this and it makes things significantly easier and quicker in school. Therefore, we are asking that all lunches are ordered in advance using this system after the Christmas break. Paper copies of the order form will be available on request each week from the office. If you do not complete the form either online or via a paper copy the assumption will be that your child will be bringing a packed lunch everyday from home that week.  Obviously we know that there will be times when plans change and you need to make alterations to the choices during the week, please contact the school office to do this.

Attendance Certificates

At the end of term we will be presenting our first certificates for those who have managed 100% attendance this term. They will get a bronze certificate, rising to a silver one next term if 100% is maintained and a very special gold award in the summer term. Children who have not managed full attendance this term will still be able to aim for a bronze certificate next term and silver the term after.

WOW Newsletter

Next week, our Wonders of Wetheringsett newsletter will go out, celebrating all the great things that have been happening in school this term.

Milk in school

The Department for Education has launched a new school food standard  To ensure that children increase their calcium intake, the revised standards state that

Lower fat milk must be available for drinking at least once a day during school hours”-

Milk is free for under-fives and subsidised for children aged 5-11.

If you would like your child to receive Milk at school each day then please follow the instructions via the website. https://www.coolmilk.com

If you are in receipt of free school meals and would like your child to receive milk every day at school please contact the school office in the first instance.

Milk Bottles

We are looking forward to Mrs Foreman starting with us in the New Year, teaching in Willow Class. She has lots of exciting ideas, including making an igloo out of milk bottles with the children. To help, please send in any empty, clean milk bottles WITH LIDS.

Building Work

Over the holidays, building work will be taking place to open up Willow classroom in the old School House but turning the stairs. This will make a huge difference to the way the room can be used. The very slippery wooden ramp will also be replaced with a concrete one leading out from the conservatory.
