Autumn Term 2013 - Newsletter 4

15th November 2013

Dear parents/carers,

Maths Information Evening

We were delighted to see lots of parents at the maths information Evening on Monday. The feedback was very positive:

" It was a great, informative evening."

" Very clear and well-structured, really informative and helpful."

"I was surprised by the high level of maths done at an early age and the high standard of resources."

"Very useful indeed!"

"It was very useful to see the difference between how maths was taught when I was at school to now."

If you would like to purchase one of the recommended maths dictionaries at the special price of £5 (rrp£9.99), orders and payment need to be in school by Friday 22nd November.

Open Evening for Prospective Parents

We are holding an open evening on Monday 25th November between 5.30 and 7pm for any children and their parents who will be joining us in Reception in September 2014 and beyond, or are looking for a possible future school for their child. Please can you let your friends and neighbours who might be interested know about this event. We have a few fliers in school which you are welcome to take and pass on to them. Thank you.

Play Area

I have been asked by the Parish Council to ask parents to make sure that children do not climb over or on the village play area fence or gates.  There is concern that the fence posts are being loosened and the fence may become damaged, and climbing on the fence may contribute to this.

It’s that time of year again when the meadow is getting very muddy. Please make sure you child brings a named pair of wellies to school in a carrier bag.

Friends of Wetheringsett Primary School Newsletter: October/November 2013

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well, Autumn/Winter is a busy period for The Friends who have lots of news to share with the parent community. The Race Night has come and gone but we are ramping up the activities for the Victorian Christmas Fayre and lots of festive fun still to come….

Thank you to everyone who helped, attended and supported the race night in October.  The event raised well over £900.  The village hall was buzzing with a sell out crowd, lovely food and they say the cheering of the horses was heard in Brockford…  Thanks to all who helped make this event a great fundraiser for the school and we hope it will be an annual event.

Christmas Cards – we hope the children enjoyed making their Christmas craft picture and designing their cards.  The designs were all very different and very creative!  We hope those families who ordered cards are delighted with the finished result. This  raised over £70 which was a bonus outcome from an enjoyable, worthwhile activity. We were impressed with the professionalism of the cards and hope to repeat this activity next year. If you have any comments about this, please get in touch.

Coming up….Saturday 23rd November @ the Middy Railway - Victorian Christmas Fayre. Volunteers still appreciated for the day, even if you can just spare an hour!  Please speak to Sarah Maundrell or Emma Morris. It’s bigger and better this year, great gift and food stalls for Christmas shopping, ‘Driver for a fiver’, steam trains running throughout, hot refreshments, Elves grotto, Event open 1am-3pm. It’s a lovely day out so please bring your friends and family to our great village museum.  Please can you all try and sell the raffle tickets that were sent home and return unused ones to school, fab prizes on offer.

**We still need items for the hamper and bottle tombola from parents so please donate what you can, see list on school notice board**

Sunday 15th December-Breakfast with Santa. Come and meet Father Christmas and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast in our Village Hall, 10am-12 noon.  Tickets see Janice Brown- £5 per child includes breakfast plus present, £2.50 Adult includes breakfast. (Breakfast  =  croissant with butter jam or bacon roll, tea and coffee).

Christmas craft afternoon Thursday 19th December -  We will be making the Christingle candles/oranges in school with the children and would like to invite any parents/carers to join us.  This is a nice activity to get involved with if you’d like to come into school.   It is always magical when the children light them and sing carols round the tree on the Christingle afternoon.

Christmas lunch -  We traditionally like to serve the children and staff their Christmas lunch,  any volunteers who would like to muck in with this are much appreciated!  There is always a lovely atmosphere and it really gets you in the Christmas spirit!

Friday tuck shop – we would really like to have a rota for the Friday tuck shop. Job includes setting up the table, serving the children and clearing away. After the initial rush we are normally finished by 4pm! It would be great to have some new faces on a rota to do this. Any enquiries about any of these activities please speak to Sarah Maundrell.

Morrisons vouchers -  need to be in by 30th November. Please ask your family and friends if they have any stuffed in purses and bring them in. We can get school equipment for free!!

Shopping through the giving machine website in your normal way can earn the school £££’s for free!  Register through http://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/  it’s really easy and can generate our  charity income

We are always happy to hear thoughts, views, suggestions and ideas of parents and carers.
