Autumn Term 2013 - Newsletter 5

29th November 2013

Dear parents/carers,

Christmas Activities

Although not quite December yet, we are beginning to get into gear for Christmas at school. The following events will be taking place:

10th December 6pm- Carol Service (including KS1 Nativity) in the church

12th December - whole school pantomime trip to Wolsey Theatre

15th Decemeber 9.30 - 11am - Breakfast with Santa (organised by the Friends)

13th December - Christmas Lunch

19th December 3.45pm - Christingle and Carols Round the Tree in the Village Hall - families invited

School Website

As you may remember, this was re-launched earlier this term. Please make sure you check it regularly. We now have a school blog about events in school on the front page of the website. I try to update this at least weekly with information and photographs about different things that are happening in school.

Friends Newsletter

Please read the attached newsletter from the Friends, especially to find out the amazing total amount raised at the Christmas Fayre last Saturday! On behalf of the school, I need to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all the many people who helped make the event such a success.

Toddler Time!

Two drop-in sessions in school have been organised on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 12th December from 9.15 to 11am for children 0 to 4 yrs. Children and their parents are invited to come along for fun, play and crafts and to meet other families. Refreshments will be provided. Speak to me or contact Emma Wnukoski on 01449 766611 if you want any further details.

Whole School Value

We are focussing on  the value of ‘respect’ this half term, encouraging children to be respectful to each other, all adults and property. As you know, we have high expectations for behaviour and have a great number of children who are fantastic role models, showing respect all the time. However, we want to make sure that all of our children show respect by being kind, caring and polite to others and valuing and looking after property. We are also encouraging all children to show their respect to all adults, particularly by not interrupting adults when they are talking. Your support through discussing, encouraging and recognising this value at home would be very beneficial.

Packed Lunches

A plea from the school kitchen - there are many children who bring a packed lunch to school who then use school spoons to eat things like yoghurts. These spoons often end up in the lunch box and are not returned to school which has meant that we have become very short of spoons. Please make sure you pack a spoon with packed lunches if one is needed. The kitchen spoons should be for use by children having a school lunch only.

Thank you for your continued support.

Vicky Doherty

Friends of Wetheringsett Primary School Newsletter: November/December 2013

Dear Parents and Carers,

WOW WOW WOW! We raised over £1650.00 on Saturday 23rd at the Victorian Christmas Fayre.  We couldn’t have done it without your support and would like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who bought raffle tickets, helped behind the scenes and on the day, all volunteers, parents, teachers, the Middy and our village community who supported this event.  It takes a lot of hard work from everyone to put this event on and it is really worth it – we hope you agree.  The sun shone on us (with only a short shower) and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed . We had visitors from as far as Essex and Southwold who relished the opportunity to drive the train, and lots of lovely comments from happy stallholders and visitors alike. We hope to build on this event and make it a permanent fixture of the village calendar.  THANK YOU.

Coming up….

Friday 13th Dec Christmas lunch -  2 volunteers would be welcome to come and help us serve the children the Christmas lunch.

Sunday 15th December-Breakfast with Santa. TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW Come and meet Father Christmas and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast in our Village Hall, 10am-12 noon.  £5 per child includes breakfast plus present, £2.50 per Adult includes breakfast. (Breakfast; consists of  croissant with butter jam or bacon roll, tea and coffee). Please see Janice Brown

Christmas craft afternoon Thurs 19th Dec-  We will be making the Christingle candles/oranges in school with the children and would like to invite any parents/carers to join us.  Following this, the children will light them and sing carols round the tree after school.  It is a special part of the Christmas school celebrations so do please come and watch if you can.

Friday tuck shop – we have had 1 kind volunteer to help us with this – we just need one more! It just involves setting up the table, serving the children and clearing away. After the initial rush we are normally finished by 4pm! Any enquiries about any of these activities please speak to Sarah Maundrell.

DOING YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING ONLINE?? OF COURSE YOU ARE!!  The Giving Machine – Do you shop online at Tesco, Amazon, Ebay, Next, John Lewis, Sainsburys, and many others?? Shopping through the giving machine website in your normal way can earn the school £££’s for free!  Register through http://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/  it’s really easy and can generate our charity income.  Please do this – it raises money with virtually no effort – just a simple registration.

We are always happy to hear thoughts, views, suggestions and ideas of parents and carers. Any help however small or large is always appreciated – we couldn’t raise our vital funds without you, thank you very much.  DID YOU KNOW? - All parents/carers are members of Friends by default so please don’t hesitate to get in touch, come to a meeting or let us know your thoughts
