Spring Term 2015 - Newsletter 3

6th March 2015

Dear parents/carers,

Red Nose Day

A reminder that our Sports Leaders are asking children to bring £1 to dress up on Friday for Red Nose Day and take part in a special comedy Golden Mile. Children can wear red or something funny. Funny hair and face paint is allowed! Chestnut Class will need to change for Forest School in the afternoon as usual.

‘When I Grow Up?’

On Tuesday, our Y5/6 children will be watching a play at school performed by the New Wolsey Theatre and taking part in follow up workshops. Part funded by Suffolk County Council, WHEN I GROW UP? is a play about aspiration and making choices.  The production and the workshops will give students an understanding of the expectations on them as well as the tools and language of aspiration. They will be joined by Y5/6 from Creeting Primary School.

Greener Suffolk Awards

Creeting Primary School is one of the local schools we work closely with. They are very excited to have reached the top top three schools in the Greenest County Awards 2015. As there is a public vote to decide on the winner, they have asked if all the other local schools can support them. Creeting is about the same size as us and is up against some much, much bigger schools, including a high school! Please vote for them via http://www.greensuffolk.org/awards2015/thepublicvote/.

Easter Service

Unfortunately Rev. Julia Lall is away on a training course in the week before Easter and will therefore not be able to lead an Easter Service for us this year. However, all classes will be taking part in a special Easter Pause day on Thursday 26th March and we would like to invite parents to a special assembly at 2.30pm that afternoon where the children can explain what they have learnt and reflected on.

School Trips

The trip to the gymnastics centre in Ipswich this week as a huge success, with staff and pupils telling me it was one of the best trips ever. Chestnut Class have even practised their persuasive writing skills, by writing to ask whether I can make it a termly event!

Before the end of term, each class will also be going on their own trip to Stonham Barns (Willow and Lime Classes), Colchester Castle (Sycamore Class) and Banham Zoo (Chestnut Class).

Whenever I talk to children about what they particularly enjoy or what helped them to learn, school trips always come out top and our teachers and office staff spend a lot of time organsing them to make sure they are this successful. However, each time we have a trip, the office staff spend a huge amount of unnecessary time chasing up parents who have not returned permission slips.  Please support us by making sure you return permission slips, with all the relevant information by the deadline. An email with all the relevant information is acceptable.

Library Update

Congratulations to Charlie Rose and Marybeth Dawson who have been appointed as our school librarians. They will be supported by our library assistants. Library Club started last week and the Community Library will begin this Wednesday after school. Parents can come into school with their child at the end of the day and both adults and children will be able to choose a book to take home.
