Spring Term 2013 - Newsletter 2

31st January 2014

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas now seems like a distant memory and we have had a very busy start to the new term! There were lots of activities in Eco-week with visits to the recycling plant, the art project and competition. Sycamore Class had a great time this week making fat balls for birds with lots of help from parents and grandparents and Lime Tree Class had fun at the Middy, relating their learning on forces to the trains. Remember to check the website regularly to find out what has been going on in school.

Eco-Week Competition

A fantastic number of children entered our competition to make something useful out of recycled material. It was incredibly difficult to choose the winners, but congratulations to the following children:

Reception/ KS1

  • First prize -  Emily Hall for her 3D photo frame

  • Second prize - Mia Spall for her bird box/feeder

  • Joint third prize - Sebastian Ambrose for his robot and Ruby Jaynes for her old fashioned telephone toy

KS2

  • First prize -  Alfie Morris for his weather vane

  • Second prize - Mia Webb for her desk tidy

  • Third prize - Bethan Bush for her tea light holders made out of coke cans

Sign2sing

A reminder that this will take place on Wednesday. Children are asked to wear a scarf and bring £1 donation. Sign2sing raises money for SignHealth, a healthcare charity for vulnerable deaf children and adults. See http://www.sign2sing.org.uk/ for more details.

Parents’ Evening

A reminder that this is on Tuesday 11th February. This is an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress. If you have not made an appointment yet, please contact the school office.

Maths Open Door Day - SAVE THE DATE

As part of the ongoing work to develop the teaching of maths in school, we will be having a special maths day on Tuesday 25th March. Children will be doing exciting maths activities all day, many of them based on a story book. This will be an Open Door Day so parents and other family members of the community will be able to drop in at any time to spend time visiting all the classrooms or to work alongside their child.

School Nurse Drop-in

The school nurse will be in school on Wednesday from 9-10am. You can drop in to have a chat with her about any issues or concerns you might have about your child/children from problems getting to sleep at night, bedwetting to concerns about growth or diet.

Term Dates

Term dates for 2014-15 are listed below. We work with other local schools to make sure our five extra PD Days are the same. These will be confirmed very soon.
