Summer Term 2016 - Newsletter 1

22nd April 2016

Dear parents/carers,

Ascension Day Kites

Ascension Day is an important but often little known part of the church year when Christians commemorate Christ’s ascension to heaven. In some parts of the world, this is celebrated with kite flying so this year, we are asking children to make a kite at home to bring into school on 5th May (Ascension Day). This will be their homework task for the week. They will share them at a special assembly in the afternoon and will then be able to fly them on the field with their parents straight after school. This could be the start of an ongoing school tradition!

We will dismiss children in the usual way at the end of school. Parents can then go with them to collect their kite from the Village Hall. Kite flying must be as far away from the Village Hall and school kitchen as possible to avoid electricity lines.

Parent/Carers’ Acceptable Use Agreement

With technology now such an integral part of life, it is recommended that school have an Acceptable Use Agreement to outline the school’s policy about, for example, taking photos at school events. This is something that will be part of our admissions pack in the future, but we feel it is important that our current parents have the same information and understanding. Therefore a copy of the agreement is being sent home to all parents today and we are asking you to read, sign and return. Any feedback on the content of the agreement is welcomed.

School Meals Increase

A reminder that the price of school meals has increased to £2.20 a day/£11 a week. Meals must be paid for in advance using School Gateway.

Whole School Value

The value we are focusing on this half term is ‘humility’. Within Collective Worship and across the school, we will be reflecting on empathy and sympathy for others, all being equal in the eyes of God and being confident to ask for help and receive it from others. You can support at home by spotting and discussing examples of humility in the actions of others, for example, on TV programmes and in stories.

Labyrinth Experience

On Thursday, a giant Values Labyrinth is coming into school! This will be set up in the Village Hall and Sycamore and Chestnut Classes will have sessions where they progress around the labyrinth, stopping at different stations to tell, read or look at stories, focusing on different values.

School Nurse Text Service

There’s a new number for texting our school nurse from your mobile phone. ChatHealth, the school nurse messaging service, is confidential and available Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm.  You can message for advice on all kinds of health issues, like toileting, emotional health and wellbeing, bullying, healthy eating and any general health concerns. The text number for this service is 07507333356

You can still get in touch with the school nurse in the same way as you might have done before, if you prefer. To find out more about the School Nurse service and for local contact details please see the website; www.suffolk.gov.uk/schoolnursing. Alternatively ask in school for more details.

I know of several parents have contacted the school nursing service for advice in recent weeks and have been very positive about the response they have received - it is well worth using!
